Privacy policy
KINKSpec is a reference work, not a service that needs to know anything about you. This page states plainly what the website and the mobile app handle, what stays on your own device, and which companies are involved when they have to be.

No accounts
There is nothing to sign up for. No name, no email address, no password, no profile.
Reading stays local
Saves, reading history and self-assessment answers are written to your own device and never sent to us.
No tracking or ads
No advertising, no advertising identifier, no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Payment stays with the store
Apple or Google takes the payment and holds the details. The app never sees them.
Who publishes this
One project, one contact address, no marketing list behind it.
KINKSpec publishes this reference at www.kinkspec.com and the KINKSpec mobile app for iOS and Android. The same policy covers both, and where the two differ the difference is stated.
Anything about this policy — a question, a correction, or a request concerning data described on this page — can be sent to [email protected]. It is the one address the project reads, and it is not used to send anything back other than a reply.
The website
A static site, served as files. That removes most of what a privacy policy usually has to describe — but not all of it.
Every page of www.kinkspec.com is built in advance and published as a plain file. There is no application server, no visitor database and no account system, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile to hold.
Serving a file is still an ordinary web request. The site is hosted on Vercel, and Vercel processes the request data that any host receives in order to deliver a page and keep the service available: the IP address the request came from, the address requested, the time, and the browser’s user-agent string. We do not keep a separate log of our own, and we do not attempt to identify a reader from that data.
Two Vercel measurement scripts run on the website: Web Analytics, which counts page views, and Speed Insights, which records how quickly pages load. They exist so we can see which entries are read and which pages are slow. Neither sets a cookie, and neither is used to build a profile of an individual reader. The mobile app contains neither script.
What your browser stores locally
Four small values are written to your browser’s own storage. They never leave it, they are readable only by this site, and clearing site data in your browser removes all of them.
- Age confirmation
- That you acknowledged the 18+ notice, so it is not shown again.
- Theme preference
- Light or dark, so the page does not flash the wrong one on load.
- Browse layout
- Whether the catalog was last viewed as a grid or a list.
- Self-assessment answers
- Only if you start the assessment, so an unfinished run can be resumed.
The mobile app
What you read, save and answer is written to the phone and stays there.
The whole catalog ships inside the app, so browsing it needs no network at all. The app keeps the following on the device, in its own app storage:
- Age confirmation
- That you confirmed being 18 or older.
- Saved entries
- The entries you bookmarked, by their catalog identifier.
- Daily meter
- On the free tier, which full profiles were opened today and the date, so the allowance can reset at midnight.
- Reading history
- The most recently viewed entries, capped at twenty.
- Theme preference
- System, light or dark.
- Self-assessment answers
- Your answers to the assessment, so a run can be resumed and re-scored.
None of it is transmitted to us. There is no account to attach it to, and no copy of it exists anywhere but the phone. Deleting the app removes all of it; the Settings screen can also clear saved entries and reading history individually, and the self-assessment can be reset from its own screen.
One thing does leave the device: entry illustrations are loaded from www.kinkspec.com as they appear on screen, which is a normal web request to that host and reaches Vercel exactly as a browser request would. The app asks for an image by its filename and sends nothing about what you have saved, read or answered.
The app declares NSPrivacyTracking: falsein its Apple privacy manifest, which is a statement we hold to: it does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites and does not use the advertising identifier. There is no advertising in the app, and no analytics or attribution SDK is bundled with it.
Purchases
The subscription is sold by the app stores. We never see a payment detail.
KINKSpec Pro is an auto-renewing subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. The purchase is handled entirely by Apple or Google: they take the payment, they hold the payment method, and they own the billing relationship. The app never receives your card number, your billing address or your store account name.
Subscription state is managed with RevenueCat, which sits between the app and the stores and answers one question: whether the Pro entitlement is currently active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user identifier generated on the device and the purchase receipt information the store issues. It receives nothing about which entries you read, save, search or answer.
Restoring a purchase asks the store, through RevenueCat, whether the store account currently signed in already owns Pro. Apple, Google and RevenueCat each handle the data they receive under their own privacy policies.
The self-assessment and its share link
Scored on the device. The optional share link carries six numbers and nothing else.
The self-assessment runs and is scored entirely on your device, on the website and in the app alike. Your answers are stored locally so a run can be resumed, and they are never submitted anywhere.
If you choose to share a result, a link is built containing a short token. That token encodes six integers: your percentile position, how many interests you marked yes, how many questions you answered, the size of the pool they were drawn from, and two packed counts — one per category family, one per prevalence band. It contains no entry identifiers, no individual answers, and nothing that names you.
The token is obfuscated rather than encrypted, and this is deliberate: anyone holding the link can decode those six numbers, which are the same numbers already printed on the result screen. The privacy of the link comes from what it leaves out, not from the encoding. A result is only shared if you send the link yourself.
Adults only
Clinical, non-explicit, and still adult subject matter.
Both the website and the app ask you to confirm you are 18 or older before the catalog opens. That confirmation is a single value stored on your own device — it is not a verification step, and no identity document, date of birth or other detail is requested or kept.
KINKSpec is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Who else is involved

Vercel
Hosts the website and serves the entry illustrations the app displays. Processes ordinary web-request data, and provides the two measurement scripts described above.
Apple and Google
Distribute the app and sell the subscription. They take the payment, hold the payment method, and manage renewals, cancellations and refunds under their own terms.
RevenueCat
Reports whether the Pro entitlement is active. Receives an anonymous device-generated identifier and store receipt data — nothing about what is read.
Nobody else
No advertising, attribution, crash-reporting or analytics SDK is bundled with the app, and no data is shared with anyone beyond the parties above.
That is the whole list. There is no advertising network, no data broker, no email marketing platform and no third-party analytics product beyond the two Vercel scripts described above. Nothing is sold or rented to anyone.
Your choices
Most of what exists is on your device, which makes most of this direct.

Because there are no accounts, we hold no file under your name to retrieve, correct or delete. If you believe otherwise, or you want to ask what a request to [email protected] would turn up, write to that address and we will answer.
Changes to this policy
Dated at the top, revised in place.
When this policy changes, the date at the head of the page changes with it. A change that materially affects what is collected or who receives it will be described here rather than made quietly, and the app will link to the revised page as it always does.
