Terms of use
These terms cover the KINKSpec website at www.kinkspec.com and the KINKSpec mobile app, including the Pro subscription. They are written to be read: short sections, plain sentences, and no clause that says something the project does not actually do.
Last updated 4 August 2026
18 or older
Adult subject matter, documented clinically. Both surfaces ask you to confirm your age.
Reference, not advice
Nothing here is medical, psychological, therapeutic or legal advice, and nothing here is a diagnosis.
Billed by the store
Pro renews automatically until cancelled. Apple or Google takes the payment and handles refunds.
The work is owned
Read it, quote it, link to it. Do not copy the catalog wholesale or train a model on it.
The agreement
Using either surface means accepting what follows.
By using the KINKSpec website or installing and using the KINKSpec mobile app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use either — and if you have already installed the app, remove it.
The agreement is between you and the publisher of KINKSpec. Where the app is obtained from the App Store or Google Play, that store also imposes its own terms on the download and on any purchase made through it; those apply alongside these and, on the points they govern, take precedence. Apple and Google are not parties to this agreement and are not responsible for the app or its contents.
You must be 18 or older
The catalog is clinical and non-explicit, but it documents adult subject matter.
KINKSpec is for adults. You may use the website and the app only if you are at least 18 years old, or older where your jurisdiction sets a higher age for access to adult material. Both surfaces ask you to confirm this before the catalog opens; confirming it is a representation that it is true.
The catalog contains no pornographic depiction and no instructional content, and its illustrations are symbolic still-lifes rather than people or acts. A small number of clinically recognised paraphilias are documented for completeness behind a content notice, with harm and legal context. Their presence is documentation, never endorsement.
Your licence to use the app
Personal, revocable, and limited to using the thing as an app.
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the KINKSpec app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial reference. The app is licensed, not sold.
You may not, and may not permit anyone else to:
- Copy or resell
- Redistribute, sell, sublicense, rent or lease the app or the catalog bundled inside it.
- Reverse engineer
- Decompile or disassemble the app, or work around its technical limits, except where law expressly permits it.
- Extract the dataset
- Scrape, bulk-export or otherwise harvest the catalog from the app or the website for a separate product or model.
- Misrepresent it
- Republish entries as your own work, or present the catalog as endorsed by, or affiliated with, anyone it is not.
The Pro subscription
An auto-renewing subscription, sold and billed by the app store — not by us.
KINKSpec is usable for free, with limits on how many entries can be saved and how many full profiles can be opened in a day. Pro removes those limits. It is offered as an auto-renewing subscription bought inside the app.
- It renews automatically
- The subscription renews for the same period at the same price until you cancel it, and the store charges the account within 24 hours before each renewal.
- The store bills you
- Payment is taken by Apple or Google from the account you are signed in to. We never see or hold your payment details.
- You cancel in the store
- Turn off renewal in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next charge; the current period runs to its end.
- Refunds are the store's
- Refund requests are decided by Apple or Google under their policies. We cannot grant, refuse or process one.
- Deleting the app is not cancelling
- Removing the app leaves the subscription running. Cancel it in the store as well.
We do not process payments, hold payment details, or issue refunds, and we cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf. Every one of those actions belongs to the store that sold it. Restoring a purchase on a new device is done from within the app, which asks the store whether the account signed in already owns Pro.
Prices, the trial or introductory offer if one is running, and the billing period are the ones shown on the purchase screen at the moment of purchase. A price change applies only to renewals that follow it, and the store notifies you as its own rules require.
Reference material, not advice
The most important clause on this page, and the one most easily skipped.
KINKSpec is an educational reference. Nothing in it is medical, psychological, psychiatric, therapeutic or legal advice, and nothing in it is a diagnosis. Entries describe what interests exist, how they are classified, and how common the evidence suggests they are. They do not assess you.
The self-assessment is a self-guided exercise scored against the catalog’s own popularity index. It is not a clinical instrument, it has not been validated as one, and its result says nothing about your health, your identity or your wellbeing.
If you have a concern about your sexual health, your mental health or your safety, speak to a qualified professional. If a topic documented here involves conduct that may be unlawful where you are, treat the legal position as a matter for a lawyer in your own jurisdiction — the catalog notes legal context in general terms and cannot be relied on as legal advice.
Prevalence figures are directional estimates synthesised from heterogeneous sources rather than census counts, and the methodology states their limits in detail. Read them as documented editorial judgement, not measurement.
Acceptable use
A short list, because a reference work offers few ways to misuse it.
- Do not automate it
- No scraping, crawling beyond ordinary indexing, or automated bulk requests against the website or the image host.
- Do not interfere
- No attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or the systems behind it.
- Do not use it against people
- Nothing here may be used to harass, out, profile, shame or discriminate against anyone. The catalog is neutral documentation and is not a tool for judging a person.
- Do not use it unlawfully
- Documentation of an interest is not a licence to act on it. Anything requiring a non-consenting party is documented for completeness only and is unlawful in most places.
Ownership of the content
The prose, the dataset, the illustrations and the name.
The KINKSpec catalog — the written entries, the classification and taxonomy, the popularity index and its underlying dataset, the illustrations, the site and app design, and the KINKSpec name and mark — is owned by the publisher and protected by copyright and related rights. Facts and figures are not owned by anyone; the selection, arrangement, wording and scoring that make up this work are.
You may read, quote briefly with attribution, and link freely. You may not copy the catalog in bulk, scrape it, mirror it, republish it, or use it to train or fine-tune a model, without written permission. Third-party sources cited in an entry belong to their own authors and are linked rather than reproduced.
Requests for permission, and any claim that material here infringes a right you hold, should go to [email protected]. A reference work with a mistake in it is a defective one, so corrections are welcome at the same address.
Availability and changes
The catalog is revised continuously; the software is not guaranteed to be perpetual.
Entries are added, rewritten and re-scored as better evidence arrives, and the app is updated through the stores. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the website or the app, including a feature offered under Pro, at any time. Where a discontinued feature is one you are actively paying for, the remedy is the store’s: cancel the renewal, or seek a refund from the store under its policy.
Nothing here promises uninterrupted availability. The website is a static export served by a third-party host, and the app depends on the store and, for illustrations, on that host being reachable.
Disclaimer of warranties
Supplied as it is, with the care described in the methodology and no warranty beyond it.
The website, the app and the catalog are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the content is complete, current or error-free, or that the software will be uninterrupted or defect-free.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of the website, the app or the catalog, including any decision taken in reliance on an entry. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, and where that is so, this section applies only as far as the law allows and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Changes to these terms
Dated at the top, revised in place.
These terms may be revised. When they are, the date at the head of the page changes with them, and continuing to use the website or the app after that date means accepting the revised version. A change that materially reduces what you get, or materially increases what you owe, will be surfaced in the app rather than left to be discovered here.
Questions about these terms go to [email protected].
